CME Competition - Futures Exchange

New Futures Exchange Breakthrough
2/15/08

Excitement is brewing as several big name financial institutions plan to launch a new and improved e-futures exchange sometimes this year. This action is in response to the CME Group's recent purchase of CBOT.

“With only two major players in the U.S. futures exchange space, it is only logical that a new entrant should emerge,” says Kevin McPartland, senior analyst at Tabb Group.

Some familiar names include Citigroup, JPMorgan, Merrill Lynch, Bank of America and other big players. The new exchange “is also looking at Eurodollars, and they are not ruling anything out” as far as potential new services are concerned.
